About
Based in Ontario, visual artist Evelyn Sorochan-Ruland’s recent interdisciplinary work is influenced by
her surroundings and familiar objects. The artwork resides in the aesthetic space of the
in-between, most certainly hovering amidst
painting and sculpture. Instinctively feeling her way through material dissonance and order, the artwork
reminds the viewer the ways in which they interpret the world through their own visceral and tactile
experiences.
She received her BFA from the University of Guelph in (2014) and her MFA from the University of
Victoria in (2018) with distinction. Sorochan-Ruland has been recognized for her work by receiving the
Career Catalyst Project Grant from the OAC (2022), Community Arts Investment Program Project Grant
(2020), and the Jessie Allan Forsyth Scholarship (2017). Her work has been exhibited across Canada and
internationally, including at the Ministry of Casual Living in Esquimalt, BC; Art Basil L.A, Ed Video
(Booth) in Los Angeles; Ex Libris Gallery in Newcastle England, and The Living Arts Centre in
Mississauga Ontario. In 2020 her work was unanimously selected to be acquired for the London Arts
Council’s collection, and most recently has had a solo exhibition, Foothold, at Gallery Stratford (2022).
